The school building and facilities - virtual tour
Our new school is situated on the edge of Moretonhampstead, but within easy walking distance of the town, swimming pool and shops. One large south facing building houses all the school’s facilities, while the grounds include a fenced playground/hard court area, large sports field, environmental/pond area, and a car parking for staff and visitors. At the rear of this building is a smaller more sheltered playground area and amphitheatre.
Our tour starts at the main entrance, next to the car park.

This is the school from the main entrance.

This is the school office with Mrs Maunder hard at work.

This is the entrance foyer that leads to the hall and lower corridor.

Our hall is used for lots of things including PE, lunches and school productions

Foxworthy is used for meetings and group work.

The lower corridor leads to the library, computer suite and Beckaford.

This is our computer suite.

This is the school library with a wide choice of wonderful books.

Beckaford is at the end of the corridor. In this room we do drama, music and other activities.

We have a large top corridor where we read and do group work. It has great views over our field towards Moretonhampstead and Dartmoor.Â

Off the top corridor are the six classrooms. Classrooms are in pairs with a toilet ‘pod’ for each pair. The pictures shown Cranbrook (Reception) and Shapley (Year 3/4).

At the back of the classrooms is a small quiet and sheltered play area. The picture shows the colourful toilet pods.

At the end of the top playground we have an area for growing plants and vegetables.

Our lower playground is used for Huff and Puff at lunchtimes, PE lessons and clubs.

The playground at the front of the school has a range of games and floor markings. This is where we are collected at the end of the day.

We also have an environmental area with a pond at the bottom of our school grounds.
Thank you for taking our tour
School history and local environment
We have recently entered a very exciting period in the life of the school by moving to a brand new purpose built school in September 2007.Â
However, there has been a school in Moretonhampstead for a long time. The old school opened in 1875 as The Girls and Mixed Infants School. There were many alterations to the school's buildings since that time, with major additions in 1963 and 2001 aimed at expanding and improving the facilities that the school had to offer.
"The new building is contributing to a much-improved curriculum, including the large hall, library and computer suite with easy access to the extensive grounds." (Ofsted May 2008)
The school also benefits from its setting on the edge of Moretonhampstead with beautiful views of the Dartmoor National Park in all directions.
The school serves Moretonhampstead and surrounding area, including the villages of Lustleigh, Manaton and North Bovey.
Further information about the history of the old school can be found in George Friend's book, 'Memories of Moretonhampstead', available at the Information Centre in town.
