Well done to all the KS2 children who took part in the final cross country event of the year at Stover School. Everyone ran fantastically well against some stiff opposition. Tom was the first boy home in 9th.
The Y3/4 team also did exceptionally well with only 3 runner. A big well done to Bonnie, Harry and Charlie.

They all shook hands at the end of the matches, helped other children up who had fallen over on the pitch and were generally an credit to our school. They worked brilliantly as a team.

Year 1/2 Football Festival - Thursday 16th March 2017
Moretonhampstead sent 2 teams to this event at Stover School. They were both amazing. There are too many highlights to mention here. After a few days of illness both teams were down to minimum numbers so we had no subs and everyone played a full 4 games. We got off to a brilliant start and this continued throughout all the pool matches. It's fair to say that both Moreton teams dominated all their matches and didn't lose a single game!
Moreton A - Ashburton 1-0, Exminster B 6-0, Stover A 8-0, Buckfastleigh 4-0. Moreton B - Stover B - 5-0, Stover C 2-0, Exminster A 1-0 and Ilsington 1-1.
In the final it was Moreton A v Moreton B. After a really competitive game it ended 0-0 and went to penalties. Eventually, Moreton A won 5-4. A fabulous end.
That's 37 goals! This is fabulous progress from the last competition where we scored just 1. Everybody was fantastic and showed great sportsmanship. I had so many compliments from other school about how well everyone played and how polite and sportsman like they all were. A very well done to you all and a big thank you to all the parents who helped with lifts and supported.
Year 5/6 Football Doel Cup - Monday 13th March 2017
The Year 5/6 football team performed brilliantly in the Doel Cup on Monday against some very good schools and our resilience and team work really shone through. We were unable to make it through to the quarter finals but we played in several extremely close matches and had, possibly, the goal of the tournament from Hugo with a superb half-volley from the half-way line.

The final top five scores were: 5th Hazeldown (48), 4th Moretonhampstead (47), 3rd Decoy (45), 2nd Canada Hill (41) and 1st Bovey Tracey (30). Up 3 places from last year. Fab result!
Football match - Thursday 19th January 2017
On Thursday 19th January we had a home game with Chudleigh Knighton as part of the Small Schools league. It was an exciting match and the players showed great team-work and determination. Well done!
"The game was quite close and towards the end became very exciting. The fact that we ended up with a draw was a huge relief for us, seeing as we fought to the end".
"Chudliegh Knighton were worthy opponents. We were losing at the start but pulled it back towards the end. 5-5 was a great score!"

If the children bring a change of shoes they can also use this equipment on the field at lunchtime. One of the most popular are the set of dodgeballs.

Another great performance from the school football team. Playing away at Denbury primary School, they won their first match 7-0 against a good team from All Saints Marsh. The team are getting stronger with everymatch they play and we now look forward to more matches in the new year. Go team Moreton!!

The children were divided into teams consisting of a mixture of different primary schools and then they played in a series of mini-tournaments. It was a great chance to mix with children from other schools, put the skills they had been learning in P.E. into practice and to learn more about the game in a fun environment. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, represented the school brilliantly and Jim won one of the player of the tournament awards! Well done Jim.

Year 2 Football Fiesta - Thursday 29th September 2016
A very big well done goes to the Year 2 football team for playing some great football at the Y1/2 football tournament at Stover School. They all played fantastically well against some strong opposition and much bigger schools. All three games were exciting to watch and very close. There was great play in all positions with some great defence and attack and praise should also go to our fantastic goal keepers for many great saves. The final match against Stover was especially exciting with the team finding their feet and hammering the opposition with 7 shots at the goal. Well done everyone for being such great representatives of Moretonhampstead Primary School. Players were: Albert, George, Angus, Aaron and Arlo.
Cross Country Event - Wednesday 21st September 2016
A cross country running event took place at Stover School on Wednesday 21st September and was open to any child in Key stage 2.
Boys and girls ran separately in Y3/4 and Y5/6 categories with Y3/4 running approximately 1200m and Y5/6 running approximately 1600m. The emphasis of the event was very much about having fun and taking part.
Moretonhampstead had 10 children taking part. Everyone ran brilliantly in some really exciting races with each race having over 100 competitors. Our top scorer was Tom, who despite losing a shoe at the start made a great recovery to come 15th. However, it was the Year 5/6 girls who beat our other teams in our own team competition by 32 places. The next cross country event takes place on 21st March 2017 when we hope to take an even bigger team.

After each activity there was the 1 minute challenge which was great fun. after te carousel activities the whole group did a vaulting display from the benches to music. Well done to everyone one who took part.

A team of 12 children (6 boys and 6 girls) from years 5 and 6 went to Newton Abbot College to take part in the Dartmoor School Sports Indoor Athletic competition.
‘In the morning we all did 5 ‘field’ events. These were speed jumps, triple jump, javelin throw, ball throw and the standing long jump. In the afternoon we competed in the track events. We split ourselves up to race in either a sprint, hurdles or longer distance event. 2 boys and 2 girls competed in each event. All our scores were put together for the final results. We came a very respectable 7th out of the 13 teams competing, which including some much larger schools.’
All the children competed competitively and with great attitude and respect and were a credit to the school.
Playleader conference (2) - 20th January 2016
Report by Finn
4 children (Purdey, Milly, Tommy and Finn) from our school went to the Play-leader Conference at Stover School.
First of all we did timed cup stacking because we were getting ideas for play-leader activities. We then moved in to a different room. The first station we did was hand ping pong. Next we played a coin game. This involved getting the coin to the edge of the table but not to fall off. We had to balance on one sheet of paper using one foot. We put our feet at the edge to see how long we could balance for. We had our arms around each other for balance. We had to drop a ping pong ball into a cup – in a pool table position- (triangle shaped). We had beanbags and had to create our own game.
I really enjoyed going there because I learnt so many games.
Playleaders - 10th January 2016
We have a great team of playleaders who organise and run games for the children at lunchtimes. each group is 'on duty' once every 9 days but helps to ensure that playtimes are happy and safe. We also have a great team of older children who help to look after all the play equipment.
Year 5 Netball festival - 2nd December 2016 (report to follow)
Bikeability Year 6 - 16th November 2015
Bikeability cycle training for the children in years 6 took place during the week beginning 16th November.
All the children successfully completed levels 1 and 2 cycle proficiency awards over the 4 day course. The children worked in groups of 6 with an instructor. The children had to pass Level 1 on day 1 to qualify them to undertake Level 2. Level 1 taught them basic cycle safety and basic skills and took place on the playground.
Days 2 to 4 saw the children leave school and learn and perfect skills in ‘live’ traffic. The 3 days were progressive, starting on quiet, generally traffic free roads where they learnt about different roads and junctions. They then moved onto other roads around Moreton to perfect these skills.
The instructor was excellent, with safety the top priority and the course gave the children important skills to use whilst enjoying cycling. Despite the weather being wet and windy at times all the children passed with flying colours.
Well done everyone and thank you to all the adults who offered their services.
Year 5/6 Netball tournament - Thursday 26th November 2015.
A team of players from the netball club went to Stover School on Thursday to take part in the DSP High 5 Netball tournament.
All the players played extremely well against some stiff opposition. As is often the case, we were drawn in Pool B against much bigger schools. While we did not win all of our games, those that we lost were very close and we fought hard right to the end. The schools we played were Stover, Bovey Tracey, Ashburton and Exminster.
Well done to all the players for representing the school so well and thank you to Mrs Zab for taking the team.
Y6 High 6 Netball festival 14th October, 2015
On Wednesday 14th October, the Year 6s travelled to South Dartmoor to take part in a High 5 netball festival. For the children going to South Dartmoor in September this was the first opportunity this year to visit the school and mix with the other children who will join them in Year 7 in September. On reaching the astro they were then put into mixed teams of about 7 or 8. They were then taken by the Year 10 team leaders to the courts where they warmed up and got ready for their first games. There were 6 courts in total and over 30 teams and each court played its own tournament. In between games the teams did a variety of activities run by their team leaders.
At the end of the festival all the children were presented with certificates. Well done to everyone and especially to Jesse, Charlie and Ali who were presented with one of the coveted ‘Player of the Court’ awards.
A very well done goes to everyone for representing the school so well. You’re all stars!
Silver Kitemark 10th October 2015
Well done to everyone who takes part in activities and sport both in and out of school. We have just been advised that we have retained our Silver accreditation for 2014-15. We will continue to build on our successes and aim for Gold next year.
Playleaders' conference (1) 7th October 2015
Well done to all the children from years 4, 5 and 6 who have volunteered to be play-leaders this term in order to help other children to enjoy their lunchtimes. A special well done goes to Charlotte, Alice, Charlie and Oliver who joined up with other schools at Stover School near Newton Abbot for the Autumn play-leader conference. They have brought back many great ideas to make lunchtimes even better. Thank you to the parents and to Mrs Moore who helped with lifts and supervising this event.

Sports day 17th July 2015
The three parts of sports day went ahead as planned this year despite the variable weather forecasts in the week leading up to the event.
The carousel team-events took place in the morning with nearly 10,000 house points earned by all the children taking part. Butterdon did a fabulous job running these events and supporting the KS1 children despite being out of school on visits for almost the whole of the week before.
After lunch on the field, the more traditional and competitive events took place. The children showed great sportsmanship supporting each other and showed great effort and determination. All children took part in either the 25m or 50m sprint events and boys and girls in KS2 took part in ‘finals’ of the 1 lap (173m) races. Further house points were collected by all classes in the fun relays.
On Friday the ‘cross-country’ events took place. All children are encouraged to take part in one of these races. It is up to the children whether they take part ‘competitively’ or ‘leisurely’. Completing the course is as a big achievement as winning.
Safety of all the children and people attending is of paramount importance and I would also like to thank all the parents that supported us by keeping the track clear during races. We also recognise that parents like taking photographs and videos of their children during the events and respectfully ask that images of other children are not put on social media or websites. We also appreciate those parents who don’t use these images to challenge race results.
A big thank you goes to all the staff for supporting the event this year despite having to have it rescheduled so late in the term. Running the event was also a challenge this year due to the loss of the sound system and I thank you for your patience with the delays that this caused.
A big thank you also goes to FOMs for the very welcomed ice lollies at the end of the afternoon.
Swimming - Tuesday, 30th June 2015
The children (and staff) have been enjoying the wonderful weather for swimming lessons this term. I’m always amazed at how fantastic the children are. In particular Cranbrook children showed great confidence in the water today.
The national curriculum target for swimming by the end of year 6 is 50m. We have always felt that this is a bit low and are delighted this year to be able to suppot a Devon Swim campaign to get all children to be able to swim at least 200m and to develop a wide range of water skills by the time they leave primary school. Any additional swimming the children can do outside of school will help with this and it is great to see so many children attending swimming lessons and clubs and enjoying the wonderful outdoor pools in the area including of course Moreton pool.
